SARTORIAL STYLE FIX
Looking for additional impact? Or can’t stand the confines of the rulebook? Here’s some sage advice on stepping out of the lines.
Rebelling and boundary-pushing will always be a big part of looking good, though doing it with tailoring has more recently become a “thing”. A healthy dose of irony comes with disregarding the rules, in that to best break them; a solid grounding in sartorial law makes things easier. So - in 'pub chat' worthy sound bites, here’s a quick intro into how to unwind conventional wisdom with your tailoring wardrobe:
Deconstruction…of the traditional tailored look is everywhere. Non-traditional items are brought into tailored outfits and traditional ensembles are pulled apart, their constituent pieces slipping in across the formal-casual spectrum.
Sports…accents fill many of the cracks in the rules - the sneaking of white sneaks into posh venues other than Wimbledon is mirrored in more contemporary tailoring. Zip neck cycling inspired pieces under blazers and sports field jacket suits jostle for pole position.

Follow our tips and you’ll be breaking the rules in no time. Take a modern twist on tailoring inspired by colour and texture.
Colour…can claim to be one of the most high impact ways of countering tailoring traditional practise. Pastels earned their shirting place long ago, but bringing their brightness in either your jacket, trousers or both is a solid route to subversion - the more atypical the tone, the more impact.
Patterning…in jacquard form is, to quote DJ Fresh feat. Rita Ora’s lyrics, “Hot Right Now”.Whether that’s trousers or blazers that reject stale suiting stuffiness so hard that to make the most of its freshness, you need to be bringing the bravado to back it up.
Definitions…of what suiting is are falling down in slow motion. Bomber and utility jackets cut from the same tailored fabrics will mean you’re odds on for attracting the right kind of double takes, whilst in comfort levels that are next level.

Knitwear …under tailoring was once the preserve of musty supply teachers and distant relations. Now though, far from these lint-based life forms, whether it be roll neck or a knit t-shirt, knitwear-suiting combinations are as up to the minute as it’s possible to be.
Final Boss…territory is giving tailoring your own tweak and finding your own personal refinement. Territory where knowing the rules inside out to break them most effectively is essential. It’s most easily nailed whilst staying traditional in the main then having your own spin along the lines of: shirt cuffs enveloping the jacket, a splash of camo detail, a popped blazer collar or a wallet chain. It’s too personal a thing for us to instruct you on further, but know that being photographed for your street style in Milan is the way you’ll know you’ve made it.
Confidence…is the last thing to lecture you on. Whatever your rule breaking looks like, it’s pulled off best when you don’t appear to be doubting yourself. Self-assurance is what you want to give off, whether it’s real or otherwise.
