If the thought of buying winter clothes seems a drag, add a bit of bold colour and some rainbow prints
It’s hard to remember exactly when the padded gilet became a kids’ essential, but I’m not quite sure how parents survived beforehand. At this erratic in-between time of year, a lightweight, easy to squash-into-a-bag kids’ gilet comes into its own. I like the fact Next’s newest style arrives in bold hues (great for spotting in the park) and wash like a dream. The latter point is crucial if you are the owner of a mud-loving toddler like me. In case you live in a household wear you actually have a say in what your children wear; note that these look great paired them with dark denim, brightly coloured trainers and a star print sweater. Happy layering.
SHOP BOYS' NEW IN
Padded cover-ups are brilliant for girls and I dig this shiny knee-length coat that comes in five punchy shades including yellow, red and green. I always enjoy seeing my daughters (aged nine and seven) wearing bold primary shades over stereotypical girlie pastels. Happily, the girls’ new-in collection is full of bold-hued pieces including these cosy sweaters and flippy skirts in bold floral patterns. Don’t miss the new knits including bold stripe hats, scarves and gloves. I’m buying the striped bobble hats for their Christmas stockings now.
