Checks are in-vogue for autumn. The classic linear look is available in multiple colour combinations and varying pattern designs.

Our interiors editor Rory Robertson highlights his check-list, 5 products your home won't want to be seen without this season.

Whether your eye is drawn to a traditional Scottish tartan interior or the famous 1970s fashion lines of designer Vivienne Westwood, check prints are more versatile than you might initially think, and they are back in fashion for homeware this autumn.

The good news? Well, you can't really go wrong with a check. It's easy to add them in to your existing decor with a small check accessory or two, or alternatively you can choose to go large with a sofa or rug. Indeed more can indeed be more when decking out a space with check prints.

Consider cushions

This is one of the easiest and quickest ways to add check style to your home. Even the addition of one singular mock tartan cushion can transform a space and give it a pop of pattern and colour - the bolder the combination the better.

Spruce up a neutral sofa or armchair with a cushion or two and embrace the tweedy textures. This Neppy Woven Check cushion is a bit of a steal, and allows you to get the look for as little as £12. We anticipate that the bargain hunters out there won't be able to resist this find.

Add a statement piece of furniture

Want to create some drama? Then we suggest going big and buying a statement item. Combining wow-factor with comfort doesn't always come that easy, but with a tartan armchair you can strike that winning combo.

The Sherlock armchair is a traditional high-backed shape with a raised seating position, meaning it's easy to get in and out of. Not that you're going to be rushing to get out of this one.

This looks great mixed in with your existing decor, so you don't have to redecorate if you don't want to. It's what one might call a 'classic' and looks particularly good in a cosy corner of the house.

Check the deck

Looking for something a little different? A tartan rug isn't for everyone, but it's certainly going to attract attention. So if you're looking for something snazzy underfoot for winter then the Morcott Check rug might be the ticket. Opt for a smart appearance and avoid clashing the rug with other strong colours or print.

For example if your room is already painted yellow, blue or green, then consider a check rug in that colour instead.

It works best in a neutrally decorated room as a way of adding colour, pattern and warmth. It could also work in a red room, as it will match.

With this in mind, add accessories and other soft furnishings in a similar red check or colourway so that items look considered. The finished result will look very smart indeed.

A check blind

Curtains and blinds aren't as complicated to change as some may think. Changing the fabric on or around the windows can also make a room look really quite different. This check Roman blind comes in two finishes, a natural and ochre finish, and has a small and simple check design, meaning it will do nothing but smarten a room up. Also, because it's neutral, it's an all-year-round hero.

Practical and comforting in autumn and winter, light and smart in spring and summer.

Ok, this one is hard to resist. It resembles something from an old crockery cupboard (in the best possible sense). Yes, it's another classic. That beautiful round shape, the high handle and the small spout, finished off in a baby blue and cream paint scheme. This will truly fit into every home, from traditional to the most modern abodes - you have to have a good jug on-hand for serving up water and juice at the lunch table, to arranging those flowers that your friend brought round. This Check Jug had you covered for all occasions.
