Since the early part of the last century Ercol has been producing homeware and furniture synonymous with quality and excellence. An established British firm, Ercol can trace its roots back to 1920 when the company was founded by Lucian Ercolani in Buckinghamshire.

We are excited to announce that you can now shop an exclusive range from the brand, right here at Next.

Whether you know it or not, you'll have come across this heritage British brand before. Its dining tables and chairs grace many a family home, as do the label's handcrafted sofas and armchairs, which are now widely considered 'classics'.

Ercol say design is at the heart of its ethos encompassing comfort, beauty and function in everything it creates.

The design team constantly evolve their approach to new pieces in order to reflect how we live today, while continuing to reflect the company's commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

Next is proud to be stocking an exclusive range for your home: expect lifelong, investment pieces that can be passed down through the generations.

Here, our interiors editor Rory Robertson hand-picks his favourite items.

Hartwell bed

Hartwell is a bedroom collection, with its key piece being this beautiful wooden bed. Finished in a solid pale oak, the design incorporates an attractive headboard with lap-jointed spindles crafted into a top rail. The design is reminiscent of the now celebrated, spindle-back sofas and chairs that gave Ercol its fame in the 1960s. The beauty of this bed? It's timeless. While it looks particularly nice amidst a contemporary interior, it also doesn't look out of place mixed with more traditional pieces or slotted into Victorian or Georgian architecture. We're well aware this isn't the cheapest bedroom range to buy, but why not collect it one item at a time? If you have a keen eye for quality and detail then be assured you won't regret it.

Hartwell side table

One way of entering in to Ercol ownership is to buy the smallest piece from the collection. But if you're thinking small means less, then think again. The Hartwell side table has all the quality and attention to detail as the larger Ercol pieces, and will fit into the neatest of spaces. The brand's designers have rather cleverly continued the spindle detail here, but this time as a lower shelf. It has an elegant shape with thin legs that taper inward to a practical storage drawer.

The Chesham dining table

I put a lot of importance on dining tables. From experience, they can be with you for many years. I have grown up sitting around the same Ercol dining table - which has now passed from my grandparents in to the hands of my brother - this being a prime example of investment into good quality design.

Our Ercol isn't remotely fancy or unusual, but it has stood the test of family dinners, taking the brunt of nine grandchildren smashing their cutlery against it and scribbling on the surface during 'colouring-in' time with pens and art brushes. It looks as good now with some patina as it did 30 years ago. In other words, it was worth every penny.

This Chesham dining table design is an updated version and shows similar strengths in the practicality stakes with its extendable top and stylish classic lines. The matching chairs are a great addition if you want to buy a complete dining set. Looking for more dining inspiration and advice? Read our Buyers Guide: Dining Tables.
