The London Design Festival 2018

The London Design Festival, otherwise known as LDF, takes place from the 15th to the 23rd September and acts as a showcase for new interior design ideas on mass. A melting pot for individual designers, conceptual artists and architecture firms to put forward their latest creations for us, the public, to interact and experience.

Interiors editor Rory Robertson has given us his edited selection of events that you won't want to miss out on during the next few days. And if you can't attend the actual show, then there are links included below so you can click through and learn more online.

LDF means three things. 1. Our capital city is about to become inundated with design pop-ups and shows. 2. You're in-line for some serious interiors inspiration, and 3. You're going to need a couple of days to recover after running around, because the events are spread right across the city.

 It's a manic week, it's extremely exciting and it's an opportunity to be completely saturated with inspiration. That's what LDF means to Rory Robertson, our interiors editor, and this year he's opened up his little black book to give us a preview of the hottest events happening in his design diary. Here's his top 5, edited especially for you, our Next interiors aficionados.

1. MultiPly and the Victoria and Albert Museum

Do you love to interact with design? Then MultiPly is definitely for you.

Occupying an area in the grounds of the Victoria and Albert Museum, which is hailed as one of London's top cultural centres, is this collaboration between Waugh Thistleton Architects and the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC for short).

A series of rooms, corridors and stairways, made entirely from hardwood, has been constructed in order to encourage visitors to re-think the way we design our homes and cities.

2. The Shoreditch Design Triangle

East London jumps to attention during LDF week, and puts on a show all of its own.

The Shoreditch borough in particular, which is home to many a London designer, sparks with talented exhibits and pop-ups. Opt in to a full programme of workshops, Q&A's and for those that fancy try out the temporary tattoo studio at The Curtain Hotel, the East End's swankiest new establishment.

3. Designjunction

Designjunction (N.B, not Design Junction) which is curated under the umbrella of LDF, was initially launched in 2011 by a team of industry experts with a goal of breaking the design mould.

With more than 200 stands and exhibitors on display it has gained a reputation for being 'where design meets'. Alongside its core trade brands, Designjunction presents a unique interiors design experience by curating a host of design-led pop-ups, bespoke installations, talks and events.

4. Bethan Laura Wood

Delve into a world of colour, print and pattern through the eyes and work of artist and designer Bethan Laura Wood. We're hooked on Bethan's Instagram, which offers an insight into her creative character. Wood, who has collaborated with CC-Tapis and Silvera, will be part of this show called Super Fake which looks at the world of 'hyper craft' and design, with a focus on their latest bespoke rug creations.

We've already spotted the neon 'rave, rave, rave' sign in the window and can't wait to find out more.

5. London Design Biennale

The 2018 London Design Biennale is on display at Somerset House, just off the Strand. Taking over the entirety of this famous London landmark the Design Biennale will this year pay focus to the theme of Emotional States.

It will explore the big questions and ideas about sustainability, migration, pollution, energy and social equality, all via a series of artist collaborations and installations. It's been described as an 'immersive, inspiring and entertaining tour of the world'.

6. Next Edited

Interiors editor Rory Robertson is delighted to announce that Next is making its debut at London Design Festival this year.

We have curated an exciting pop-up shop showcasing Womenswear, Menswear, Kidswear and Homeware for LDF 2018.
