SPOTLIGHT ON

Workwear

23 December 2017

It’s time for a workwear appraisal. Snap up our pick of the best game-changing pieces for a fast-track promotion in the style stakes.

1.   The Pencil Skirt

The fashion houses have spoken: the pencil skirt is back. From Gucci to Prada, this sassy little number was seen sashaying down the catwalks – and it just so happens to be perfect attire for the office. Take your cue from Duchess-to-be, Meghan Markle’s character, Rachel in Suits and wear with a white shirt tucked in. Add pointed courts to seal the deal. Kitten or killer heels? You decide.

2. The Nine-to-Nine Dress

No wardrobe is complete without a multi-tasking midi. To maximise its wear-anywhere potential, pay close attention to the silhouette and print: it needs to be taken seriously in the boardroom yet feel cool enough for the bar (or a festival come summer). If in doubt, stick to a monochrome palette.

3. The Power Blazer

Here’s a trophy piece that every woman should have in her on-duty (and off-duty) repertoire. With the power to transform any look from so-so to sharp and sophisticated, blazers have become a firm favourite on the street style circuit. Neutrals are usually a safe bet but equally a bold colour can have a huge impact on an otherwise minimal outfit. Either way, you’ll be ready for business.
