How to pull off knitwear at work
14 November 2018
It might sound simple enough, but wearing the right knitwear at work is a task that many men struggle with. When winter hits, we in turn have to strike the perfect balance in our outfits – the weather outside may indeed be frightful, but the trials and tribulations of modern heating systems can be less than delightful. The innocent act of throwing on your favourite jumper before you leave the house can have you in a puddle of sweat the moment you set foot into any shop, restaurant or office building and in turn, instantly cursing your choice of jumper. Which is why we’re here to give you three options that maintain that balancing act as well as keeping you stylish at all times.

Pick a failsafe rollneck
Whilst the roll neck may have been an essential in the style circuit for many years already, still a good majority of men out there who struggle to get on board with it, for reasons unbeknownst to us. It’s the perfect winter staple: a piece that can be dressed up and down for every occasion, but one that looks particularly good when balanced with a tailored trouser and a smart shoe. If you’re going chunky on top, it’s always a good idea to go slimmer on the bottom, but if you’re after something a little sleeker, a more fitted roll neck looks great with a slim fit suit. If the weather is being temperamental, leave the overcoat at home and let the roll neck speak for itself.

Choose a crewneck and shirt
A tried and tested look that’s been used for decades by men and women all over the world is the classic pairing of a shirt and crewneck. Keep things simple by making sure the majority of your outfit is neutral in colour, but don’t be afraid to raise the bar with an autumnal tone in your jumper or shirt to break it up a little. The best way to keep this look smart is to go for a thick, wool-style jumper rather than jersey and pair it with a smart trouser and pair of shoes to complete the whole look.

Add a textured shawl neck
If you can afford to be a little more casual, opting for something thick and textured is a fantastic way to balance out a classic pair of jeans or a chino. You want all eyes to be on your top, so keeping the rest of the outfit simple is the best way to go – an on-trend piece like this is best left to breathe on its own, so don’t overdo it by adding too much colour or pattern elsewhere in your outfit. And, even if you ignore every other rule we’ve given you, make sure that you wear slim, tailored trousers to keep the whole look sleek and streamlined.
